Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom

The Aragon Ballroom, at 1106 West Lawrence Avenue, was built nearly 100 years ago. According to the Chicago Architecture Center, architects Huszagh & Hill designed the building’s stucco exterior in the Spanish Baroque style and movie palace designer John Eberson decorated the interior to look like the courtyard of a Spanish palace. It opened its doors in July 1926 and quickly became a center of dance-hall culture in Chicago. With the decline of social dancing in the 1960s, the Aragon began hosting performances by groups such as Metallica, Nirvana, the Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Stevie Wonder, Grateful Dead and more. In 2019 Byline Bank secured the "name-in-title sponsor" of the venue.

The historic concert venue, a landmark in the city’s Uptown neighborhood, suffered structural damage in February 2021 following a heavy snowfall that dumped 18 inches of snow on the Chicago area. About 75 feet of the Ballroom’s roof line collapsed, but the rest of the building was structurally sound. BTL Architects was pleased to play a part in restoring this building.
